Android game of the week: Defender II

You would think that any game which excels both critically and financially would warrant a sequel even if the game in question wasn’t anything spectacular to begin with.

Thankfully Defender II doesn’t sit in the latter as it has seen great success despite being an Android only title and DroidHen have substantially added enough features gameplay wise to warrant the download of this game.

Building off of what made the first one great including:

  • New enemies,
  • Revamped user interface and
  • Additional defences to help Defender,

Defender II is addictive all over again. Whilst the game starts off slow from the speed of your bows, coin flow and enemy movement, once you hit roughly Wave 60 things start to get interesting.

Your bows speed should be fast enough to eliminate multiple enemies at once and you would have collected enough coins to be able to upgrade some of your abilities such as:

  • Strength
  • Speed,
  • Power Shot
  • And Multiple arrow (only if you’ve reached certain levels in previous abilities)

On top of all the standard upgrades are the inclusion of the Lava Moat and Magical Tower, whilst they may cost an arm and a leg to purchase and upgrade they do provide an extra level of defense.

It allows you to strategically play the game in a different fashion from its predeccesor.

Don’t think that with the inclusion of these new features the game will be a walk in the park, I can safely say that it is the complete opposite.

Defender II scales in terms of difficulty depending on how much you’ve upgraded and how good of a player you really are.

If you’re stuck on a certain wave for long periods of time, upon retrying said wave the game will scale back the enemies to allow you to easily pass the wave and continue progressing.

If how ever, the game feels that you’re too over powered for very long it will drastically up the tempo of enemies it throws at you.

Defender II overall is an amazing game that DroidHen have crafted to perfection.

The graphics and audio are exactly the same as Defender, and the inclusion of Multiplayer is a welcome feature that I didn’t even think of when playing the game.

It’s a great way to earn more money and experience point to level up. Anything you do in this game will count towards levelling up, so the higher the level you are the more special bows are accessible to you for a price of course.

It’s great to see that DroidHen have crammed as much content within Defender II as possible to give you, the player, the chance to enjoy the game all over again.

Final Thoughts:

Classified as a worthy sequel and jam packs with more content than the first, Defender II is sure to be a hit all over again.

If you spent countless hours and reach wave 500 in the first game and got stuck then you’ll definitely be able to break that barrier with all the new options available.

What I liked:

  • The inclusion of Lava Moat and the Magical Tower
  • Revamped user interface whilst I liked the old one this one is much more efficient
  • Multiplayer: This is a great addition and pits you up randomly against others to see who can last the longest.

What I didn’t like:

  • The lack of new enemies, there is only one new enemy which is a bit disappointing.
  • Multiplayer doesn’t work very well on 3G it takes to long to find an opponent.
  • That the game will again consume many hours of my life.
