UPDATE for South East Queensland

At approximately 6.55pm, (ADST) on Wednesday, 12th January, Vodafone transmission was restored, reinstating mobile phone coverage to customers in Northern NSW and Queensland. The outage started at approximately 6.05pm (ADST). The temporary disruption to service was caused by adverse weather and flooding, affecting the transmission link between NSW and Queensland.

As at approximately 6.05pm on Wednesday the 12th January, due to adverse weather and flooding in Queensland, services for Vodafone customers in the state are temporarily unavailable due to a disruption to transmission services between NSW and Queensland. Services in NSW remain unaffected. We are currently working with our transmission provider and will advise on an estimated restore time as soon as possible. We are also investigating an alternative transmission path for our customers. We will continue to keep customers informed.

Flash flooding in South East Queensland on Monday 10 January, 2011, has affected two of Vodafone’s transmission facilities in Grantham and Withcott resulting in service outages in the following areas: Minden, Withcott, Chinchilla, Mount Mowbullan, Centenary Heights, Roma, Toowoomba, Kingaroy, Toowoomba West, Miles, Dalby, Oakey, Grantham and Mount England.

Now that we have been advised that it is safe to do, Vodafone’s engineers are on site working to restore services to the affected regions. We expect the sites to be restored this afternoon.

Tuesday, 11 January, 4:15pm
Vodafone services restored: Brisbane, Ipswich, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and some rural areas in QLD.

Vodafone voice and data services in Brisbane, Ipswich, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and some rural areas have been fully restored, as of 1:45pm AEST.

Vodafone’s exchange facility located in Coorparoo, QLD, has been affected by flooding. We are working hard to protect the site, with employees on the ground building a sandbag barrier against rising flood waters.

Vodafone is currently experiencing a disruption to voice and data services in some parts of Queensland including Brisbane, Gold Coast and Rural areas.

Vodafone’s transmission facility located in Coorparoo, QLD, has been affected by flooding.

Our engineers are onsite and services are being restored. We expect full voice and data services within the next two hours, depending on weather conditions.
