Device software wrap up: September 14, 2011

So there’s been a lot of questions back and forth between our Vodafone Community and various blog posts relating to software updates. Below is a full wrap up on what we currently know regarding your Smartphone and Tablet device software updates.

This will be a weekly update starting from next Wednesday, so check back on our blog to find out what’s the latest software update news for your Android smartphone.

Smartphone software updates

Below are various smartphones that we are currently testing for future release.

Manufacturer Smartphone Name Current Future Update details
Samsung Galaxy S 2.2 2.3.3 Android 2.3.3 software is now available. Check out Android 2.3.3 update for Samsung Galaxy S for more details.
Nexus S 2.3.4 TBA This firmware update has been released. Check out our previous post Android 2.3.4 release for Nexus S for more information.
Galaxy S II 2.3 2.3 Testing for a new maintenance release for the Samsung Galaxy S II has been completed and approved. We are now awaiting information and confirmation on release details.
HTC Nexus One 2.3.4 TBA Google has rolled out Android 2.3.4.
Legend 2.2 TBA Android 2.2 is now available. Check out our previous post HTC Legend Android 2.2 (Froyo) update take 2 for more information
Desire HD 2.3.3 TBA A new maintenance release for the HTC Desire HD is completed and is now available to download. Check out HTC Desire HD update
Desire Z 2.3.3 TBA Android 2.3.3 is now available. Check out our post HTC Desire Z Android 2.3 software update for more details
7 Trophy* Windows Phone 7.0.7392.0 Windows Phone 7.10.7720.68. Testing for Windows Phone “Mango” firmware update has been completed and approved. Awaiting deployment from Microsoft
LG Optimus 2.1 TBA Android 2.1 is now available. Check out LG Mobile Support page for details
Sony Ericsson X10 mini pro 1.6 TBA Due to hardware restrictions impacting optimal performance, Android 2.3 platform will not be released for this smartphone.
X10i 1.6 2.3 Software is now available to update. Check out our post Sony Ericsson X10 update to Android 2.3 for more details
INQ Cloud Touch 2.1 TBA No update planned by the manufacturer
Motorola FLIPOUT 2.1 TBA No update planned by the manufacturer

Tablet software updates

Below are various Tablets that we are currently testing for future release.

Manufacturer Tablet Name Current Future Update details
Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" 2.2 2.3 Currently in testing. Approximately 1 month
Galaxy Tab 10.1 v 3.0 3.1 Samsung are concentrating their efforts on the new GALAXY Tab 10.1 first and will then look to releasing Android 3.1 for testing for the GALAXY Tab 10.1v. No ETA has been set yet.

It is the device manufacturer’s responsibility to ensure that the devices shown above continues to be compatible with the Vodafone network.

Any new software or hardware revisions must be tested to ensure there is no regression on the performance of the device before it is release in the market. VHA must be inform of the relevant software or hardware changes for approval.
