Facebook app for iPad now available

NOTE: Hi everyone, just want to introduce you to Neil Collins who has been around the social media scene in Australia for quite some time.

He has a wealth of knowledge and loves all things social and will be writing regular posts on technology and its effect on behavioural changes online. (Also he is awesome!) [note I was forced to write this]

Facebook have finally released the long-awaited iPad app, along with major updates to the iPhone app and mobile site.

I downloaded the iPad app, and updated the iPhone app yesterday, and have had a seamless experience so far.

MacWorld however is reporting that some users (including BBC journalist Mark Coyle, who accused Facebook of not testing the app properly) are finding them both buggy.

The interface is slick, using a slide-to-reveal menu bar housing:

  • Favourites
  • Groups
  • Pages
  • Apps
  • Account Options

The newsfeed/timeline takes up the whole screen in standard mode. No sign of the ticker as yet though, which makes me think it’s still in beta, but there are tones of new features to play with.

I’ll be interested to see where the ticker will fit into the app, given that it seems to be a major part of the changes to come out of the recent F8 conference. What are your thoughts?
