HTC Sensation XE – Android 4.0.3 Update

From 12:00pm (noon) AEST, 22 May 2012 – HTC will begin rolling out the Android 4.0.3 “Ice Cream Sandwich” update for the Sensation XE handset.

This is a platform upgrade and will change the way you experience and interact with your device. Some menu items have moved and the user interface has been refreshed.

Downloading the update

Due to the size of the upgrade, we recommend performing the download over WiFi.

However, should you choose to download it over 3G using your Vodafone SIM, the data will not be deducted from your monthly allowance.

If you are connected to any roaming network you will be charged at your applicable data rate.

Where to now?

Hi Kieran, I wanted to know how big the update file would be? I read it somewhere but can’t locate it. I’m at work and don’t have access to a Wi-Fi .. so was thinking of using 3G/HSDPA .. its quite fast where i sit .. about 1MB per second .. but have never used it for bigger downloads .. I have 1.5GB Data available ..

Would it be fine? What if it breaks .. will it resume?
Thanks! .. Can’t wait to have my Ice Cream Sandwich :D

I saw comments elsewhere that this ics upgrade may cause wifi-problem after the upgrade. Is this true? Or the problem has been rectified?

Hi Nige, was your handset purchased from Vodafone in Australia or imported from overseas? I’ve confirmed with HTC and they’ve advised that the update is currently available to all devices sold by us here in Australia.

          Ah no worries,
I purchased it online from an Australian dealer, so as its not updating I’m guessing it is imported…
Are you able to give me direction where I might be able to find out when/how I will/can get the update?
          Thanks for your help Kieran

Just installed the update when I got home from work (Downloaded by WiFi). The biggest difference I’m noticing now is how responsive it is, especially Sense 3.6. Very pleased with the update so far. Better late than never as we should all be saying. Thanks for the constant and informative updates leading up to the release, Kieran. You are worth more money, and keep up the good work.

That might explain it “been rooted before” .. you need to unroot and get the system back to the stock version before this update from Voda would work .. lots of topics on the net (xda developers) that will help you do that.. having said that .. GOOD LUCK is what you’ll need!

The features in ics for xe are great but the phone overall has become muchslower since the update. Phone lags, responsiveness much slower, half of the the apps have got issues(something to do with text). I would now rather have the old froyo on a fast phone than this update : /

    Anybody else having issues?

Hi Kieran, just got the update and my xe is working better than ever!
    Except..
My ‘messages’ app doesnt seem to run.
When i run it, the app opens fine, then it all stops there.
It has the little loading circle and says ‘please wait…’
I left it for 20 minutes and upon return, still in the same state.
