This is the most pleasant news I have heard lately about HTC.

I am so looking forward to upgrade my handset when my contract finished early next year by then this would be available.

It was so bugging me that the current HTC was only exclusive to Telstra but hearing even the better version will be available to us is definetely the best news ever.

Just hoping it will not only be avaialbe at some crazy prices when bundled with caps.

    Please update us soon :)

I currently have a contract with vodafone and will be shortly due to upgrade, will there be the ability to pre-order this phone to ensure I get one on the release date.

Really not keen on the idea of waiting weeks for a back order.

I hope you manage to get a release date soon. As a lot of people will buy outright from overseas if there is no hope of getting one in Australia soon. Pre-order is already available through some UK mobile stores.

    @Rhys
Telstra’s exclusive rights to the Desire ends in late October… I hope what you are saying isn’t the case though! I specifically asked through Vodafone Support online whether they would be getting the phone after Telstra’s exclusive rights to the phone were over and all I got was an apology for the delays in answering my question. Then a 2nd email saying that cos they never heard back from me they assumed my inquiry was resolved? Anyways… After going into my local Vodafone & 3 store on Thursday and asking the staff there, both stores told me that they would not be getting the HTC Desire so I ended up buying the phone outright online on Monday! I’ll be very annoyed if it’s offered for free on the $49 cap!

    @Vodafone
Congrats on securing exclusive rights to the Desire HD. I imagine Telstra would be pissed off about it and that makes me smile :D

Vodafone let me pre-order this phone now! This is the only reason why I sticking to Vodafone when my contract ends soon, otherwise I would have bought the desire from ebay and used a TPG sim, because TPG is soo much cheaper than Vodaphone.

the features i like about desire HD?
    where do i start?
apart from the 1ghz processor…700plus ram….4.3 inch screen(a delight for videos)
its got DNLA capabilities…HTC sense(phone knows when its in a bag or pocket hence it rings louder) …you can flip the phone upside down when you want it to go silent…it tells you latest information of the incoming caller even before you answer their call….best of all, the maps for the gps is already preinstalled which means zero wait and the directions you need just pops out instantly…..theres alot to like in this phone but itll take me all day to type everything…
the only gripes ive got is the batt life. i wish it could come with at least 1400nmh power and not 1200plus. and the internal memory should be at least 16 gig. ( i know its got a card slot for micro sd cards but why only 1.5 gig internal memory?)

I, like everyone else, would love to know if/where I can preorder, as my contract is now up and I’ve just been waiting for the DesireHD before I upgrade!

Thanks sooooo much i asked heaps of people no one knew it this is the app i want as i travel a lot. I tried to look on ANdroid market but you cant search maybe because you can only on mob. Do you know how much it costs and how good it is. Looks awesome, this is one of the main reasons i want Andorid, i had iphone 4 i hate it several sites i cant access as no flash, you MUST have iTunes on every PC you plug it in otherwise you cant transfer Mp3′s also you cant simply transfer mp3 and make it into ringtone you have to buy an app what a joke. Apple is the China of phones, censor and tell you what you can and cant do with it.

I agree with Justin K. We are now in the first week of October and only 5 days from release overseas. Like many others, we too are out of contract and waiting for this phone. Would really appreciate corporate Vodafone to channel information down to its sales staff and loyal customers as to when this will be available.
We know for a fact that people are getting frustrated with this lack of information and are looking elsewhere. You’re losing business Vodafone…….what are you going to do about it?

I called customer support yesterday in regards to hopefully trying to find an estimated time frame for release.

The customer support office i contacted checked and advised they had no release date for the next week as yet, however I was told that since the phone was sold by another competitor and their exclusivity deal is up that it may take a bit longer.

Now the HD Desire is NEW and has not been released and therefore could not be sold by any other competitor so no idea with that one………Secondly is Vodafone going to also be selling the Desire because the above statement leans that way.

Either way, when the general public is supplied information like this, you begin to wonder if anyone actually knows whats going on. Its not to hard to communicate the information correctly to staff and the general public now is it?

My guess is mid to late November but happy for Vodafone to prove me wrong.

I like the Desire Z coz it has a physical keboard, the screen is a nice size and all the reviews so far have been really great. One downside of the Z and HD – no camera on the front, a lot of people consider this a deal-breaker. But I’ll trade a front camera for the features I mentioned above.

The new HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z will be broadly available through mobile operators and retailers across major European and Asian markets from October 2010 with the HTC Desire Z shipping in North America later this year.”

So why the secrecy re: release date? I’m sure VHA constantly analyses the mobile market; stats regarding prospective/existing customers, and patterns in mobile expenditure. They could be practicing Apple-esque media hype tactics – delaying customer gratification to ensure sales. Or it could just boil down to the basic principle of supply and demand. Let’s face it, with such a small market, Australia’s just waiting for the whole world to throw it some left-overs. VHA is stuck in the same boat as every Australian company when it comes to media, communication and technology – sailing dead last.

I’d say we’ll be forced to wait a bit longer, unless some execs at VHA come up with an excellent excuse to convince HTC in expediting AU’s batch. In the mean time, patience will serve us well, or perhaps the iPhone4 will…

can someone explain to me why this phone only has 1.5gb built in memory, since all other competitors (galaxy has minimum 8gb and IP4 has 16gb)? I thought apps and the likes would be better stored on the built in memory and all other stuff (video/music etc) on the expandable memory. With the size and availability of apps i would think 1.5gb is rather too little????…. just my concern is all.

    Hi Silver

Firstly, you would struggle to fill up 1,5Gb with apps, or even get close to that.

Secondly the Desire HD allows you to have removable storage, which is more versatile and gives you the choice to upgrade when and where you want. This way you can even have more than one extrernal memory module that you can swap out when you want. Much better than the max 16Gb you get with an iPhone!!

    Hope this swings you ;)

Richard, got your point, it is just that the Tom Tom app is about 100mb (ip4 app that is), and on my wifes iphone 3gs (it is a 16gb version), the system and apps takes up about 1.5gb…. (she doesn’t have any music or anything on the phone, just apps)…. so, I’m a bit concerned., What about this thing about Google maps stored on the phone’s memory? That would take a bit of space too wouldn’t it?

Yes, you can add memory etc, but I don’t think you’re supposed to run apps from that part of the memory. I would think that memory would be good for video/images/music only. But I might be wrong…. :-)

In all fairness, HTC only unveiled the HTC Desire HD in London last September so i guess a 2-3 month wait on pricing and availability is quite normal, compared to that of the iPhone4 launch anyway (they sure took the term ‘stall’ to a whole new level).

I guess we’re just so impatient due to the info leaks a while ago, and a strong desire for this high-spec alternative smartphone.

I wouldnt be surprised if Dell Streak and all new phones that run on 2.1 or below paid

I think we will see the normal plans applied as voda don’t need for it to compete with the iphone, its just an alternative to one and another option to the customer, so I would suspect the same iphone plans would be applied the the htc desire hd.

Still think we will have to wait at least 4 more weeks to actually have the phone in our hands as Europe is struggling with proximity sensor issues on almost all handsets and HTC are working on a fix.

Better to wait and have a more stable phone and the the Europeans do field testing for us :-)

if you read the news you would see that only desire z had the major delay , it was because of a flop of the keyboard if you held it above your head if you typed in bed,
desire hd is on the move with Netherlands being the first to get their hands on it , now that UK is getting its online goodies.

shame about the software stuff up, looks like htc hd7 will be out before desire HD , shame,
still will wait for DHD over HD7 as they have issues that i dont want eg. no Flash(tm)
will wait forever it seems for DHD :(

Heaps excited for DHD, will be my first smart phone. I was 90% set on a iphone 4 then…i thought “hmm before i buy it i better find out what else is out there”, watched the HTC Desire HD vid, and have never looked back.

Would have been cool if they called it HTC Ace. Instead of slapping HD on the end desire. Just a minor gripe.

Its all wishy washy isnt it people? Some people are saying it will be released anywhere up to Christmas, others just cant wait and then there was my call to VHA yesterday who said they doubt whether they will even be selling it anymore. One word Vodafone….CONFUSION!

It would be in Vodafone’s best interest to at least try and keep fans/customers pacified with any REAL knowledge of what progress if any there is. We are hearing from customers how unhappy they are with the so called ‘Customer Service’.

Vodafone: Be responsible and try to reply to some of the questions people have asked, even if you’re not sure, then tell them you’re not sure. Feedback is good

Also when reading a fee press statements it depends on HOW you interpret them -

“The device will be available through Vodafone from early November”

This could mean that we might have be able to actually purchase and hold the phone in our hands from early November

    or

Vodafone will start taking orders for the phone early November, making it available for sale, and then we might not actually receive it for weeks afterwards.

Maybe they might offer 2011 Limited Editions for the first 500 customers because who knows when it will be available for purchase :-(

Does it mean anything to you? Obviously not

For existing vodafone customers that couldn’t pre-order I’m not sure why, as I have been a voda customer for 10 years and preordered the DHD last week. Did you get some kind of message saying you couldn’t?

also anyway head of an ~ETA for the DHD?

just got a reply from Voda. facebook supppot group and say: “The HTC Desire HD has yet to be officially released, so the order is at the warehouse awaiting stock.”

This is so stupid. if they say the phone is out on 1st, Nov. then they should delivery the promise. I received an email telling me I’ve passed the credit check and the phone will be delivered to me within the next 2days, and yet the online order tracking has not been updated since monday and no information about the product delivery whatsever. And it’s been 2days and it is still awaiting the stock?shouldn’t you already hae the stock ready to delivery?

    really disappointed.

I suggest you guys to seek help from Vada. facebook, you’ll get the response pretty quick. do not hope you’ll get email response from direct sales, it is just hopeless and the customer services line is just awful.

I received an email this afternon from Voda titled “Here’s your exclusive upgrade offer from Vodafone” and one option is the dhd for $59. So after 60 mins of calls to 1300 722 565 which is the number provided I have been told i can’t order it yet the email states I can.

So now after waiting for 30 more mins on the phone to the complaints section I still am none the wiser and I hate hearing the “hang in there we will be with you soon”

Voda pic up your act as you have just lost me as a customer and you will find out about it when i port the number. Thanks for nothing voda

i got the same msg regarded the “warehouse”. direct deals do not know what is going on. I called them and pretty much all they could tell me was that with pre-orders for the desire HD it will take up to 2 weeks for delivery from the date that your order was approved. My order was approved last week wednesday so I am waiting until next week wednesday and if I havent gotten it by then I will be canceling my order with vodafone and never dealing with them again. it really is pathetic how poorly they have handled the launch of this phone… such a shame because i really dont want an iphone

Would you prefer that VHA give you a date, and then have that blow out due to circumstances beyone their control?

So many people on here love to have a little cry, about a phone. Have some patience people, do you really think VHA is delaying it getting to you?

Come on voda please let us existing loyal customers know.

The loyalty dept has promised to call me back, but then they have just told me that they can’t call me back because they can’t make outbound call from Melbourne.

Voda how to I get to speak to someone who actually knows what they are talking about and the info they give me is correct?

Its looking more ominous for me to buy the phone outright and go with another provider, because loyalty works both ways, but I don’t seem to be getting anything.

    Hi Vodafone Blog,

This is extremely frustrating. I preordered 28/10/10, have been asked twice to provide further details after days of waiting both times. (should have been asked for on order) Spent 4 hours (mostly on hold) to order hotline, including being hung up on straight after a rep picking up the phone after 40 mins on hold. Transferred to 5 people from various departments and no one could could get any more information than what I can on ‘track your order’. Sent an email last week – no reply.

I just want confirmation that my order is complete and I don’t have to wait yet another week before having more information requested from me.

Who do I have to talk to to get a definitive answer?

    Hi Vodafone,

I got my DHD through the shop a week ago. The other day I noticed that the camera is not in the centre and the tip of the camera lens already touching the inner circle of the glass plus there are scratches on top of the camera that might have been caused by the power adaptor. It seems that the metal part of the power adaptor is pointing towards the phone and was bumping during transportation to Vodafone storage or store. This might be the cause why the camera misalignment. I brought it back to the shop at Macarthur Square and show them the camera lens. They just told me that as long as the camera is working it won’t be replaced. But this is clearly a manufacturer’s defect and I’m sure my phone is still under the manufacturers warranty and I’m entitled to it since I just got my mobile for less than a month. What should I do I’m not happy with my phone. I’m not a perfectionist. I don’t care about the scratches coz it can be overed by a proper casing plus the fact that I really take good care of my phone. What I’m worried about is the camera lens. It might be working for now but in the near future it might stop working because of the already obvious defect and by that time if might not be covered by the warranty.

    Thanks a lot.

I had the same issue, found that the battery was really really really poor however if you take off the vibrate settings, live wallpaper and switch to medium brightness settings your phone will last alot longer, the HTC stand by time is alot better than that of the iPhone.

thanks for the advice rob but im one step ahead of u, i did all of ur suggestions with the brightness less than half, no background sync, the phone still doesnt last me the whole day after a full charge. Take into mind that i barely use the phone to go on facebook or check emails or go on other apps like bloomoberg or time or whatever.
this phone’s battery is way too poor, i mean, i leave it on the desk, and the battery just goes away without me using it. to all the ppl who consider getting this phone, i highly recommend you all to use the phone 1st and see if u really like it and compare it to the iphone 4 first. i am not an apple fangirl, but the truth is the iphone 4 is superior to the htc desire hd. although i really enjoy the DHD interenet browsing experience (ie the flash and the large screen to stream videos), u will soon realise after one or two youtube videos, ur battery will soon be gone. u have to be so careful with the usage of the phone due to battery issue that ur usage will be minimised to simply texting or calling ppl if urgent. and u cant even go on fb and other apps freely without worrying about the battery. its like u might as well get a nokia 3300.

I’m in the property industry and use my phone quite a bit and to date, havn’t had all that much trouble with the battery life depending on how you use it of course but i will admit that it is poor compared to other phones. That is the only issue i have with it.

Apart from that, the phone is fantastic

@Ronald – has the phone come yet?

Forged, they primary to be taught that filing lawsuits is not the shoot of temper to idea piracy. As opposed to, it’s to bit something mash than piracy. Like cool-headed of use. It’s unqualifiedly a the all in anyone segment supplies easier to petition iTunes than to search the Internet with imperil of malware and then crappy magnificence, but if people are expected to equip excuse to be loads and hiccup against ages, it’s not blooming to work. They no more than would sort of a tired on together in desist from people sire software and Cobweb sites that modulation it ridiculously pacified to infringer, and up the quality. If that happens, then there compel be no stopping piracy. But they’re too wary and horrified of losing. Risks pilgrimages to be enchanted!

Shame the Voda network is so hopeless! This phone will sadly struggle with Vodafone in Australia.
