New Series – Download or Delete: Zombargedon review

A new app review series that tells it to you straight, should you download or delete? This week our resident Android game reviewer plays Zombargedon, which as the title suggests it’s all about zombies and destruction.

I’ve been absent for some time due to many reasons and one of those being a lack of good games to download and play from Google Play. Luckily my time away has been rewarded with a plethora of titles and many of them feature the always loveable enemies from beyond the grave.

First up with this new app review series we have Zombargedon developed by Boxitsoft Casual, a side-scrolling shooter with some crisp 2D graphics and amazing sound effects.

the game has a free version with advertisements on the footer of the screen and, a paid version that’s ad-free.

I strongly suggest getting the paid version because this game will not disappoint and, it’s always good to support the developers who churn out quality titles.

The aim of the Zombargedon is to stay alive for as long as possible, killing any zombies that decide to get in your way and, at your disposal are a ton of weapons with limited amounts of ammo ranging from:

  • Pistol
  • Sub Machine Gun
  • Assault Rifle
  • Boomstick (shotgun)
  • Rocket launcher, etc…

The gameplay

When you start you are limited to your machete which you will always carry and the ever trusty pistol. As you start killing zombies, your level will increase which will unlock new weapons, characters as well as, more ammo.

If you get tired of what is at your disposal you can always call in air strikes depending on the kill streak that you have.

Chaining up 100 zombie kills grants you a little help from some extra terrestrials that shoot down 2 laser beams annihilating anything in their paths. This is handy when you’re low on health and surrounded by dozens of zombies – a guaranteed save.

Whether you download the free or paid version you will not be required to pay anymore money to get better equipment, so rest assured this is not a free-mium game (A game with optional premiums requiring the user to purchase from the application options) like many other titles.

The verdict:

What else is there to say that hasn’t been said already this game is simple, engaging and fun. Those are the three main ingredients you need when creating a game for smartphones.

In my opinion, a great game is something that will catch your eye and keep you occupied for the better of 20-30 minutes, which is roughly how long my train rides to work are.

Anything more than that and it gets tiresome unless it has a storyline and, features enough content for the player to continue to invest.

What I liked:

  • How easy it is to lose track of time when shooting zombies
  • Various weapons and characters to unlock making the game more fun to play
  • Crisp visuals and extremely smooth character animations

What I didn’t like:

  • There is only one environment to shoot zombies
  • No soundtrack would have been great if the game was accompanied by a good heavy metal tune
  • No local or online leaderboards to compare with friends or strangers

Is this game a download or delete? I say, download.
