MEDIA RELEASE: HTC & Vodafone annouce HTC 7 Trophy

HTC and Vodafone Unleash the htc 7 trophy – a new level of mobile entertainment through Windows Phone 7

Exclusive to Vodafone customers from October 2010

Sydney, Australia – October 12, 2010 – HTC Corporation, a global designer of smartphones, and Vodafone, one of the world’s largest mobile communications companies, today announced an agreement to bring the new HTC 7 Trophy, a new Windows Phone 7 smartphone, exclusively to Vodafone customers in selected markets across the world – including Australia – from October 21, 2010.  The HTC 7 Trophy has been designed as the ultimate mobile entertainment device, taking full advantage of the Zune and Xbox LIVE integration of Windows Phone 7.

The ideal handset for keeping in touch with friends and making the most of every free second, the HTC 7 Trophy features enhanced support for gaming and entertainment. For those who want to capture the moment, the five megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash makes it easy to take high quality images and high-definition, 720p video, while the photo enhancer application, available from the HTC Hub, allows people to be more creative with their photos.

HTC 7 Trophy customers can take their favourite content with them, wherever they may be, thanks to the Zune media system, which allows music, movies or even Xbox LIVE content to be downloaded straight to the handset’s 8GB of in-built memory, or synchronized from a PC. Featuring Dolby Mobile and SRS WOW HD™ virtual surround sound, music and video content played through the integrated multimedia player can be enjoyed at a far more immersive level than was previously possible.

The HTC 7 Trophy unlocks a whole new world of Xbox LIVE gaming, bringing companion titles from favourite Xbox franchises and some of the world’s leading games developers to Vodafone customers. Thanks to the 1GHz Snapdragon processor, fast action gameplay is responsive and exciting. Gamers can test the games for free before choosing to purchase, create their own avatar and play phone-to-phone or phone-to-PC for an added multi-player experience. With the ability to upload scores to online leaderboards or share them with friends, the HTC 7 Trophy makes the concept of mobile community gaming a reality for Vodafone customers.

“Windows Phone 7 sets a new benchmark for mobile entertainment thanks to its integration of both the Zune and Xbox LIVE platforms,” said Florian Seiche, president, HTC EMEA. “HTC 7 Trophy has been developed specifically to offer a fantastic gaming and multimedia experience, on top of all the social networking and standard functionality you’d expect from a smartphone. We are excited to offer Vodafone customers in these markets a device which is helping to set a new standard for mobile entertainment and communication.”

Ross Parker, General Manager, Devices and Pricing at Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA), said: “Vodafone will be ranging Windows 7 phones with the exclusive HTC 7 Trophy launching on October 21.  Our customers have a long love of smartphones and, with our extensive range, best-in-market plans and a unique range of 3G services, there’s a smartphone for everyone. The inclusion of the HTC 7 Trophy, as a Windows 7 smartphone that’s exclusive to Vodafone, further enhances the choice of smartphones we offer to our customers.”

Availability
The HTC 7 Trophy will be available exclusively through Vodafone in Australia, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom from October 2010. It will subsequently be made available in further markets around the world, and details will be announced in due course.

Very excited too! I’m currently on 3 though. Not sure if they’ll also feature the Trophy with Vodafone? Or would I need to switch over? Although I’m still in a plan for 4-5 months I’m dreading to get a new one as I’m not very happy with the one I have. Would pay it off and get a Trophy asap! Hope it could be priced at the 39-49 cap and that it would be available for pre-ordering! :D

Is anyone else surprised that Vodafone are reported to be selling this phone in three days time and there is basically no information available on it?

I was in a shop just a couple of days ago and the two people I spoke to hadn’t even heard of the phone. Don’t want to whinge to much as I didn’t expect a Win7 phone to be available until December, but some more information or even confirmation that the phone will be available on the 21st (as mentioned above) would be great.

    @Michael,

I’m with you on that one. As of yesterday they only operator showing some signs of movement is Telstra. Their store in Bourke&Swanston in Melbourne has a touch screen that displays some of the videos. However, people are not getting the clue. I walked in started to use it and only a few were interested.

Vodafone when is this one coming out?

It’s launch day and there are no phones, no details on your web site, you haven’t even announced pricing. What’s the point of saying you’ll have them today if this is how you launch a phone? I’d wanted to avoid it, but off I go to Telstra.

And why no details on the Desire HD – you release a press release last month saying October, and now October is nearly over and not a word…

Talked to someone from crazy johns today who had an htc sales rep in earlier and spoke to him. He believes that the htc trophy wont be on sale till next tuesday on the 26th, but he could be mistaken, and also that it’s not only exclusive to vodafone, but also coming to optus, however again, he could be mistaken.

What’s the use of a blog if you don’t update it? Seriously.

I called Vodafone yesterday and the rep had no clue that it was already out.

I ordered it online through http://shop.vodafone.com.au/mobile-details/HTC-Trophy7

Not even a mention on the home page. It’s as if Vodafone doesn’t want to sell this.

By the way, when will the HTC Trophy be available in stores in Sydney? Will it be in most stores or only specific ones?

Yeah link doesn’t work, as per usual. I want to know when I will be able to get this in-store in perth, seeing as this doesn’t release in many places in australia at the same time.

Just jumped online to Vodafone sales and bought it. Not a problem.

I should have it in 2-5 days.

Makes a difference from the stores who have no idea and 3 (who are now part of vodafone) that still have no word on WP7.

Words cannot describe how disappointed I am in Vodafone. I tried to call and was on hold for over an hour before I gave up. No one is the stores has the information they need to be able to provide the bare minimum level of customer service. This is not the employees fault… this is not the stores fault…… it is a fundamental issue with Corporate Management. I would be embarrassed to be a Vodafone employee.

Just don’t expect Vodafone’s shambles of a website to be able to accept the order or return an error message (except a server busy 408/409 at lunchtime). Or their call centre to allow you to have one even if you are off contract if you already have a relationship with Vodafone
