Yes surely you can use an actual unit of time? 3g versions of the tab have just shown up on UK sites and it certainly is enticing to put a preorder down when the situation here is completely unknown.

Samsung is having legal dispute about the Tablet with Apple which is causing the delay, i don’t know why Vodafone isn’t just saying that. The release date was going to be August 11th but that was canceled a week ago for some unknown reason.

I think if you really want it buy it off of amazon or website that you like.

No Samsung hasnt announced any thing as yet. But i was hoping vodafone would be the first to be selling it. Especially since voda n samsung should have pretty close ties. I was hopeful from reading other forums and this one that the tab would be out around the 22 Jul.

import here I come, again. Vodafone loses out. That at least 5 people here and a good 10 people I know who are going to import. If they all got decent 24 month contracts thats at least $18,000 vodafone have lost! I hate to think of the other hundreds of people that are watining and importing and taking advantage of the strong aussie dollar. that would amount to hundreds of thousands of $$ in lost revenue!

I’ve been saying the same thing for years. I’m sure they wouldn’t make a loss by bringing products to Australia simultaneously. Apple does it and they are doing fine. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If the companies cared about their relationship with their customers they wouldn’t treat Australian’s as less than. And whats more we are geographically close to Asia where these products are most likely made so if anything shipping should be cheaper.

Wow guys, calm down, I’m also waiting for this device but it does take time, Vodaphone don’t have the details yet but have said when they do they will release them so give them some time!

As for global release dates, Apple does not release all products around the world at the same time, look into it and you will see for yourself they were also released in the US first then internationally later. It’s just economics, hit the biggest markets first once up and running then spend the time dealing with all the little/smaller markets which takes time to come up with deals work out shipping costs, local service/warranty costs, local regulations..etc..etc. It’s not as easy as just shipping the product to every country and saying sell it.

Also the 3G version vodaphone has said they are waiting for has only basically just been made available overseas so it’s not even as though it’s been out for a matter of weeks/months it’s a relatively new release… cut the poor guys some slack I’m sure they are also wanting to get the device imported and selling as soon as possible.

By interfering with its own product cycle, Samsung has done itself a competitive disservice. The arrival of the 10.1 tablet was delayed when the decision was made to scrap the 10.1V in favour of a slimline model with the same SOC as the original design. The pending quad core tablets and dual core 1.5GHz compettitors will shade those currently released, particularly with NVIDIAs known video encoding difficulties with Tegra 2.

But in the absence of the forthcoming second generation chipsets, I’d still like to try the 10.1 though … wherefore art thou, thine oft delayed tablet … ?

Great, Apple know its a superior product so they stop it. They have stolen and infringed on more patents than any other company bar microsoft.

I F*****G HATE APPLE even more now, some stern competition and the go off crying to mummy!

and how can you patent the ‘look and feel’ of a device, if this is the case then OSX should be banned simply because you use a mouse to point and click and it opens programs in different ‘windows’

Google were right, these patent wars are getting out of hand and stifling both innovation and competition.

As long as you are getting it from somewhere other than a carrier it should be cool. And vodas network isnt locked. I rang and asked if 850 band devices from overseas would work and they said they would.

There was confusion at the station at the word had got around, that the tablet from South Korea had got away . . .

    http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2011/08/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-still-coming-to-australia-in-the-near-future/

Essentially, the situation is clear as mud. Whilst we all wait for the lawyers to argue, Samsung will release further cryptically-worded press releases, whilst we contemplate other tablet options, any or all of which might equally be described as “arriving soon.”

HTC Puccini, Amazon Hollywood, Lenovo Thinkpad, ASUS T2, Xoom2, MSI Windpad A100, Huawei 7 inch, Dell 10″, Sony S1 …

We did have a pre-reg for it a while ago, however given what’s happened to Samsung from Apple, we are not sure what’s happening right now.

You will be waiting a while for this Tab, Samsung is getting sued by Apple because the look of the galaxy is too similar to the ipad. SO, in order for samsung to fix this issue is they have to obviously pay apple compensation and change the look of the galaxy. so you might be waiting a loong time. just go buy something else. theres plenty of better stuff out there…..

So High Court has lifted the ban, clearing the way for Samsung to sell the 10.1
According to Samsung, they can have the 10.1 on Australian shelves in seven days.
Its approaching the point where a Galaxy Tab may not even be worth it anymore, but I’ll still get it if it arrives before christmas, if only to support samsung.
Any word from vodafone as to when/if they will be selling it?
