Hi,
Further to my previous posts around our customer data security, today we issued a press release regarding some action we have taken as a result of our investigation. I’ve posted the release in full for you here and will continue to update you with any further developments.

Vodafone updates on security investigation
Vodafone has provided an update on its investigation following the incident it was alerted to on Saturday 8th
January. As a result, the employment of a number of staff members has been terminated and Vodafone
has contacted the NSW Police while its investigation continues.
We have also undertaken a review of IT systems security, processes and training. While that review is
ongoing, a number of recommendations have been implemented and others are planned for shortly.
“We take data security and the storage of our customers’ information extremely seriously,” said Nigel Dews,
Chief Executive Officer at Vodafone Hutchison Australia. “We are conducting a thorough investigation of
the incident and of our own security systems and processes and have taken immediate action.”
“Security can always be improved and the additional measures being implemented as a result of our review
will increase security and further limit the risk of people doing the wrong thing. Some of the initiatives we
had already planned for this year are being brought forward and we will also be conducting an additional
independent security review,” said Dews.
Vodafone is also reiterating that contrary to some reports, customer records are not publicly available or
stored on the internet and credit card details held in our database are securely protected.
Vodafone has been liaising with the Australian Privacy Commissioner and other government bodies and will
be providing its full cooperation to the NSW Police as it undertakes its enquiries.
