In total, there are now less than a dozen Vodafone base stations in disparate rural locations throughout Queensland that are currently impacted by the floods and this number continues to reduce.

Vodafone is working to restore full mobile phone services as soon as possible.

In Brisbane, there are a small number of locations, including 3 sites in the CBD, that we are currently unable to access because of road closures and flooding.

Vodafone will begin work to restore these sites as soon as we can gain access to these areas.

Vodafone was able to restore mobile phone services in an around Toowoomba at approximately 1.30pm on Thursday, 13 January, 2011. Severe flooding had impacted sites in the area from Monday, 10 January.

3 Mobile coverage in Queensland
Vodafone Hutchison Australia has confirmed that its efforts to protect a data centre in Eagle Street, Brisbane, from flood waters and power outages have been successful, and the company has confirmed that its 3 Mobile network is providing normal services to customers in Queensland.

VHA installed back-up generators on the roof of the building to ensure that its mobile services remained operational during the mains power outage that has affected the Brisbane CBD.

UPDATE: Thursday, 13 January, 2011, 2.30pm ADST:

Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) engineers throughout Queensland have been working around the clock to ensure Vodafone and 3 mobile phone services throughout the state remain operational despite the adverse weather and flash flooding.

VHA has been using helicopters to fly in back-up generators and diesel fuel to network areas that have lost power in an effort to maintain mobile network services.

Sites that are currently at risk from flooding, are being closely monitored, and we are doing everything possible, including building sandbag barriers and deploying submersible pumps to prevent these sites from flooding.
