Which is best for books: Tablets vs smartphones

Which device is best suited to reading your favourite eBooks: tablets or smartphones? The answer to this question is really dependent on you, the user.

The age of digital publishing is truly upon us and the increasing popularity in eBooks means we are now able to access our favorite reading material from almost anywhere.

Smartphones

Smartphones are now more accessible and affordable than ever, and it is this accessibility that makes smartphones great eBook readers.

What they may lack in screen real estate, they make up for in portability. The fact is,a phone is more likely to be with you at all times.

Suddenly the idea of access to millions of books, newspapers and magazines is now possible all from the space of your pocket.

Both Android and Apple smartphones have their very own eBook stores integrated into their operating system.

By doing this it allows users to choose from a large variety of digital downloads, often priced much cheaper than the paper format.

In addition, with all of the new smartphones that were announced at the MWC 2012, it seems like bigger is better in terms of screen size.

Tablets

If you do not already own a smartphone, and reading eBooks is not going to be the primary use of your device, then a tablet could be just what you’re after.

Where an eReader’s primary use is reading eBooks, a tablet does so much more.

Music, movies, games, email and internet browsing are just a few features in addition to the eBook functionalities of tablet computers.

Tablet LCD screens are also generally easier to read from than smartphones, as their size and shape is generally designed to mimic that of a traditional book.

Like their smartphone cousins, tablets have access to a number of alternative eBook sources and apps from where users can peruse and download from a wide selection of digital material.

Both smartphone and tablet eReaders usually have search, font and lighting options amongst many other functionalities that go beyond that of the use of the non-electronic alternatives.

However you like your books, there is sure to be a device best suited to your needs and budget.
